Abstract

Although in recent years the search for psychological care has increased, a considerable portion of the population in Brazil, usually made up of black people, still suffers to achieve minimally adequate care with regard to mental health. Furthermore, the number of professionals in the field who seek to deepen their knowledge regarding the consequences of racism in the individual has not been sufficient to meet the demands. That said, this article sought to investigate, through a literature review, the experiences of black women in Brazil regarding the search for mental health care and how they perceive the process of psychological care when reporting their pains related to racism. The results showed that academic productions focused on the mental health of black women were made in states in the southeastern region of Brazil. It is concluded that there are still few productions focused on the mental health care of Brazilian black women and that there is an urgent need to insert content focused on ethnic-racial issues in the curriculum of the psychology course.
